The half term break was very special for two individuals who train at the Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy. Megan Jones and Freya Berkin, both 11 years old, had a week-long experience of what it takes to train as a professional tennis player at the Global Tennis Team academy in Mallorca. Academy coach, John Cavill, has formed links with the Global Tennis Team to improve the level of players from Britain that wish to experience the tough environment that the successful Spanish system demands in the hope of producing international players.

Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy competed in their first inter club match on Saturday 22nd October. The team of 5 players came up against some tough competition from the Riverside Tennis Club in Bedford, winning only 2 of 8 matches. Although the result seemed like the Riverside Club dominated the match, this was far from the reality.

Milton Keynes player, Megan Jones won the Under 12 Girls regional event of the Nike Junior Tour at Milton Keynes Tennis Club on Friday 5th August. The Nike Junior Tour is a national event with 10 regional qualifiers. Hundreds of competitors across the UK are competing for a place in the National finals, with the winners earning a Babolat racket contract, £150 Nike vouchers and a place in the International finals held in Morocco.

When an organisation is teaching 600 people a week, the possibilities of finding talented juniors is good. Since September 2004 the Tennis Works Junior Academy has worked with 26 children of which all are under the age of 10. The players endured 3 hours a week squad training plus matchplay and tournaments. The improvement has been outstanding, with the players competing and winning local and county events.
