2005 First MatchMilton Keynes based Cavill Academy competed in their first inter club match on Saturday 22nd October. The team of 5 players came up against some tough competition from the Riverside Tennis Club in Bedford, winning only 2 of 8 matches. Although the result seemed like the Riverside Club dominated the match, this was far from the reality.

2005 First Match

There were 2 doubles matches and 6 singles matches, which Freya Berkin and Katie Lister managed to seal 2 singles victories. All singles matches were fiercly competed with each one going to a 3rd set tie breaker.Academy director John Cavill said, “I think it is important that the team take away what they have learned from the match and continue to work on their weaknesses.

For me I can spend time observing the players in a competitive situation that can’t be replicated in training. How the player deals with the mental, physical and tactical pressures endured in competition ultimately determines how far they will go in the sport. I look forward to getting back on the practice court and preparing for the future. The team are currently in their winter training schedule and their next match is on 10th December, when they will play the Riverside Club at home.2005 First Match
