Two tennis players from Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy have been selected to represent their county in the forthcoming inter-county fixtures. Megan Jones will be playing in the Girls Under 14’s for Buckinghamshire and Katie Lister will be playing for Bedfordshire in the Girls Under 12’s.

On a weekly basis, Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy is developing as they set their sights on developing future British Champions. As the level of play rises, so does the level of coaching expertise. Cavill Academy founder and coach, John Cavill, recently attended an International Symposium in Madrid that was organised by the Spanish Coach Education Organisation, the Registro Profesional de tennis.

Tennis players from Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy spent their October half term at their winter training base in Mallorca. The academy teamed up with another Performance Club from Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire to undergo their winter technical training regime on the Spanish clay courts with Cavill Academy coaches John Cavill and Rupesh Mehta.

For the first time in North Bucks, Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy, has recently been accredited as a LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) Performance Club.
This prestigious status has been awarded due to the programme, the quality of performance coaches and the ability of the players in the academy. There are 120 county affiliated clubs in the UK of which the Cavill Academy is the only one in North Bucks and one of 6 in Bucks. The accreditation enables the Cavill Academy to access vital funding from the LTA and further opportunities to attract sponsors to develop future tennis talent.

Local tennis talent have just been served an ace by Milton Keynes based company, Gallagher & Cropton Ltd. The Cavill Academy is Milton Keynes’ only tennis academy that is dedicated to producing future tennis talent. All players are aged between 7 and 12 years old with each player training for 7 to 12 hours a week plus a comprehensive competition schedule. Since the academy was established in September 2005, the academy has grown from strength to strength and with the succession of outstanding results, the academy has attracted great interest in the sponsorship field.

On Friday 2nd June at Gerrards Cross, numerous children competed in the Bucks LTA Mini Tennis Grand Prix. The countywide event has been running since September 2005 and has proved a huge success over the past 3 years, with children from up and down the county competing at Mini Tennis.7-year old Sophie Honor from Winslow had another success, as she competed against 6 other girls in the Mini Tennis Orange event. Sophie, who is in the Tennis Works Mini Academy and currently trains 4 and a half hours a week, has started to have some good results after working very hard throughout the winter. She battled hard to win 5 out of the 6 matches she played, which resulted in coming second place.

Success is becoming a habit for Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy as two of the players celebrated success over the half term break.
It was a busy week for the Cavill Academy with 3 players competing in Stony Stratford, Aylesbury and Chesham. On Friday 2nd June, Freya Berkin competed in the LTA Sanctioned tournament at Stony Stratford Tennis Club. Unfortunately there were only 2 girls that had entered the event, which resulted in a straight final being played. Freya found the match against local opponent Samantha Shaw a struggle, as she battled to try and find consistency. She produce moments of magic with some very aggressive shots but as the frustration of not being able to link everything together built up, she unfortunately was defeated 6-4, 6-3.

On Saturday 13th May two players from Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy competed in the U12’s Junior Matchplay event held at the Riverside Tennis Club in Bedford. Both Megan Jones and Freya Berkin, aged 11, travelled to the LTA sanctioned event along with other girls in their rating division. Freya struggled in her first match, losing 6-2, 6-1 against some strong opposition. In her second match she managed to battle with her opponent having taken the first set 6-4 but then losing the second set 7-6. The 3rd set tie-breaker unfortunately went against Freya who was finally defeated 10-5.
