Cavill Academy Aced by Nadal PDF Print E-mail

Tennis players from Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy spent their October half term at their winter training base in Mallorca. The academy teamed up with another Performance Club from Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire to undergo their winter technical training regime on the Spanish clay courts with Cavill Academy coaches John Cavill and Rupesh Mehta.

The academy players and coaches spent the whole week working with Jofre Porta, who is the coach of former world number Carlos Moya and the technical coach of current world number 2, Rafael Nadal. The daily routine included 4 hours of tennis and 2 hours of fitness with a tournament on the Saturday against other Spanish players from local clubs. This is the 3rd camp in 1 year, which has help boost the players’ technical, physical and mental ability.2006 Nadal's Coach2006 Nadal

However, this camp was slightly more special as the group had the pleasure of meeting this years Men’s Wimbledon Runner-up and current French Open champion, Rafael Nadal, at his training base in Manacor.

Cavill Academy Head Coach, John Cavill, said, “It’s been an amazing week, especially meeting and seeing Nadal train! The players have benefited greatly from the week of intense training that will help fuel their development over the winter months. Both Rupesh and myself have been teaching the techniques that Jofre employs over the past year. The visits to his academy allows us to discuss and analyse the players with one of the world’s best coaches so that the players individual programme can be adjusted to fulfil their full potential. Jofre has seen the Cavill Academy players develop over the past year and applauds their improvement. I can’t wait to get back to work with the players and I am looking forward to our next visit in February 2007.”
