On a weekly basis, Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy is developing as they set their sights on developing future British Champions. As the level of play rises, so does the level of coaching expertise. Cavill Academy founder and coach, John Cavill, recently attended an International Symposium in Madrid that was organised by the Spanish Coach Education Organisation, the Registro Profesional de tennis.

Spanish tennis is at an all time high, with more Spanish men in the top 100 than any other country. International coaches from Academies from all over the world came to present their systems and methods with everything from techniques to equipment to fitness and more. Special guest, Svetlana Kuznetsova (current Women’s world number 4) was in attendance as she spoke about the tour and training at the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona, which is where Andy Murray was developed.

When looking for leading academies in the world, there is nowhere quite like the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. They have produced 9 world number ones including the Williams sisters, Sharapova and Agassi. Leading on from the symposium was a 3-day Coach Bollettieri Course that studied their system, procedures, ethos, beliefs and principles. After a gruelling 3 days of learning and discussion, John passed the course to join other international coaches with the Coach Bollettieri Accreditation. John said, “As my players develop, so do I. The only way I am going to lead my players to success is by surrounding myself with successful others and by learning from their experience and knowledge. It is important that I have people I can turn to who have produce some of the best players in the world and this is another step towards realising both mine and the academy’s dream, to produce Champions.”

Following on from the course, John has been personally invited by Senior Coach, Lance Luciani, to visit the Bollettieri Academy in Florida next year. This will be another exciting link for the Cavill Academy that will enable the players to train with other players from all over the world in a highly competitive environment.
