Players 'Clean Up' at Chesham PDF Print E-mail

Five players from the Cavill Academy and Talent ID programme travelled to Chesham Bois Tennis Club on Friday 25th July to compete in the well attended Mini Tennis Tournament. The team included Zack MacQueen, Krishna Chintamreddy, Emily Honor, Jamie Lawes and Matthew Dixon. All the players train with Cavill Academy coaches John Cavill and Simon Tomlinson at Woughton Leisure Centre, Milton Keynes, who travelled with the players on the day.

Chesham Bois Winner In the Mini Tennis Red, Matthew Dixon competed on only his second ever tournament. From the start of the event Matthew looked the strongest player, making sure he stayed consistent and relaxed in the points.

Matthew battled through to the final which was a very close encounter with the tournament winner being decided on the last point of the match as both players drew 9-9. Matthew showed great character and finished the match by winning the final point and taking victory.

In the Mini Tennis Orange, the Cavill Academy players stood out from all the rest as they dominated the boys and girls event. After the players had played in the round robin stages they all qualified for the quarter finals, which they all won. In the boys event Zack came up against Krishna in the semi finals with Krishna taking the win in a very close 3 tie-breaker match. Krishna then went on to win the final and take first prize.

In the girls event both Emily and Jasmine took their opponents apart in the semi-finals to reach the final against each other. Both girls pushed each other hard but Jasmine edged ahead to take the win and the gold medal.

Cavill Academy coach, John Cavill, said, “This event has shown where we now sit in the county at Mini Tennis. We won every event they played in! All the players worked 100% and competed at a level above the rest. It is always satisfying for me as a coach to see how our hard work as a team is starting to pay off as we strive to produce the best players in the county with the potential of reaching national level in the next few years. All the players should be very proud of their performance.”
