Five players from the Cavill Academy and Talent ID programme travelled to Chesham Bois Tennis Club on Friday 25th July to compete in the well attended Mini Tennis Tournament. The team included Zack MacQueen, Krishna Chintamreddy, Emily Honor, Jamie Lawes and Matthew Dixon. All the players train with Cavill Academy coaches John Cavill and Simon Tomlinson at Woughton Leisure Centre, Milton Keynes, who travelled with the players on the day.
Matthew battled through to the final which was a very close encounter with the tournament winner being decided on the last point of the match as both players drew 9-9. Matthew showed great character and finished the match by winning the final point and taking victory. In the Mini Tennis Orange, the Cavill Academy players stood out from all the rest as they dominated the boys and girls event. After the players had played in the round robin stages they all qualified for the quarter finals, which they all won. In the boys event Zack came up against Krishna in the semi finals with Krishna taking the win in a very close 3 tie-breaker match. Krishna then went on to win the final and take first prize. In the girls event both Emily and Jasmine took their opponents apart in the semi-finals to reach the final against each other. Both girls pushed each other hard but Jasmine edged ahead to take the win and the gold medal. Released: 27 July 2008
