Tennis Academy Players In Action PDF Print E-mail

As the second Grand Slam tournament of the year is in full flight at Roland Garros, local tennis players from the Cavill Academy have also been in action.

Katie Lister and Gregory Kratt both travelled down to Chesham Bois Tennis Club to compete in the LTA Grade 3 event. In the girls Under 14’s, Katie played well in her first 2 matches although her serve was giving her some problems, which ultimately was the difference between winning and losing her first round match. She continued in the plate competition which sadly ended after a drop in form in her 3rd match of the tournament. Gregory showed great courage and determination in his first round match of the Under 10’s but unfortunately couldn’t convert enough deuce games and lost the match, which was only shorts sets, 4-2, 4-2. He then went on to play another good competitor in the plate but again, he was outdone on the big points.

On Thursday 29th May, James Marchant travelled to Chesham 1879 to compete in a match play event. James’ rating has rocketed up two levels in the past 8 weeks, due to some great wins. This day was no different as he won both his matches to gain more rating points. On Friday 30th, James competed in the LTA Grade 5 tournament at Stony Stratford TC. After cruising the first two rounds he came up against stiff opposition in the final. His more experience opponent showed this by taking the short-set match 4-2, 4-1, with James proudly collecting the runners up medal. James has had a great run of form since joining the academy in April this year and his progress is being accelerated.

On Saturday 31st May, Gregory Kratt travelled to Halton to compete in an Under 10’s match play event. He did very well against some good opponents and won one of the two matches. On the same day Kyle MacQueen played in the final of the Road to Wimbledon Competition. 10 year old Kyle faced Stony’s 13 year old Tom Green and prevailed the winner, as he won the match 6-2, 6-4. This now means Kyle moves into the county stages of the competition to play other players from Bucks.

While most of the players were competing, 10 year Georgie Sanders was training hard with International Tennis Coach Tomas Ruzicka at his academy in the Czech Republic. Georgie spent 2 weeks there having spent a week in the Easter holidays, to enter the eastern European environment and take her tennis to another level. Tomas is part of the Tennis Works Network, which the Cavill Academy is linked to. The strong relationship allows all budding national level players within the Cavill Academy to travel and discover what it takes to be a top level player. This link will prove to be a key ingredient to producing more local national players from MK.
