Lauren Armstrong won the tournament at Corby Indoor Tennis Center on 11 December securing a place in the Grand Prix HGP193 which will be held in Cardiff at the end of January 2010.

In the 1980’s and 1990’s Jo was the most dominant force in British Women’s tennis. In 1984 she reached a career high of number 5 in the world whilst being the number 1 British player between 1982 and 1995. Whilst Jo was on the professional tennis tour, Alan Jones was the coach who influenced her tennis immensely. Alan was a former National Coach and spent 15 years travelling with Jo and Jeremy Bates, as well as coaching 8 British number 1’s and over 20 national age-group winners. He is the most successful British coach ever and is still at the heart of coaching at the FC** Tennis Academy at Dukes Meadow in London.

During the week commencing 24th August, tennis players from around the country are playing in their Junior County Closed tournament. The various categories are set by age, starting with the Under 8’s right through to Under 18’s. This years’ Bucks County Closed was held at Chesham Bois Tennis Club and the Under 8 and Under 9 categories being played at the Bucks Indoor Tennis Centre in High Wycombe.

In the last few weeks several players from the Cavill Academy in Milton Keynes have competed in county and regional events with some excellent results. On Saturday 18th July Zack MacQueen and Jasmine Lawes represented Bucks in a regional Mini Tennis Orange event in Suffolk. All players in the team competed well but unfortunately they weren’t strong enough to take the title.

On Bank Holiday Monday 4th May, three players from Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy travelled down to Chesham Bois to compete in various Mini Tennis events. The three events were Under 8’s, Under 9’s and Under 10’s. The event was well attended with a good standard of players across each category competing.

The Cavill Academy was established in September 2005 to develop players for competition. Over the past 3 and a half years there has been a wave of talented players come through the programme and now with national level coaches, Simon Tomlinson and Neil Claxton involved, the programme is stronger than it’s ever been.

On Saturday 28th March, players across the county and beyond competed in the LTA Mini Tennis Orange competition held at Halton. Cavill Academy player, Zack MacQueen took the title as he defeated Oli Lomax from Gerrards Cross Bull Lane Tennis Club in the final.

On Sunday 22nd March 6 players competed in the Tennis Works Grade 5 U12's LTA Tournament at Stony Stratford Lawn Tennis Club. The knock-out event resulted with Kyle MacQueen and Ben Willis in the final. Cavill Academy player, Kyle, went on to win the final 4-1, 4-1.
