On Bank Holiday Monday 4th May, three players from Milton Keynes based Cavill Academy travelled down to Chesham Bois to compete in various Mini Tennis events. The three events were Under 8’s, Under 9’s and Under 10’s. The event was well attended with a good standard of players across each category competing.
8 year old Lauren Armstrong, who recently competed for the county in the Regional Mini Tennis Red event, won the Under 8’s category quite convincingly. Lauren, who trains with children older than her has been very successful over the past few months. With yet another tournament victory in this category, she will hopefully be recognised and credited the status she deserves, so that she can continue to develop her game to the next level. 8 year old Matt Dixon was in the Under 9’s category. He came up against a couple of consistent opponents, who managed to keep Matt at bay but then he went on to win both of his last two matches, which unfortunately wasn’t enough to advance him through the draw. 9 year old Steven Stallwood continues his fantastic run of tournament finals and victories after winning the Under 10’s category. Steven has been with the academy since September 2008 and his efforts are continually being rewarded with great competitive performances that have gained him another title. Cavill Academy director, John Cavill said, “With our lack of facilities but strength in coaches, players and supportive parents, our objective is to produce the best Mini Tennis players in Bucks and we are certainly making huge steps towards our goal. The last year has seen all the players make a massive leap forwards and we will continue to keep working hard and let our results do the talking. I’d like to congratulate all the players for their fine efforts and whether we win or lose, the way they conduct themselves makes me proud ... but obviously wins make everything that much better!” Released: 4 May 2009
