Andy Murray and Laura Robson survived a closely fought battle with Russia’s Igor Andreev and Elena Dementieva (6-4, 6-7(6/8), 7-6) to move through to the final of the Hopman Cup (Perth, Australia) on Saturday where they will meet Spain’s Tommy Robredo and Maria Jose Sanchez Martinez.  Earlier in the day Robson lost to Dementieva 4-6, 0-6, however, Murray defeated Igor Andreev 6-1,6-0.

Murray was full of praise for his young partner, saying “normally in mixed doubles the guy is supposed to help the girl out, but every time I tried to help Laura out we lost the point. After that I left her to get on with it and she did just great.”

Laura has shown considerable promise in her singles matches against some of the world’s best players, and the confidence she has gained in partnering Murray can only stand her in good stead for the year ahead.
Spain defeated local favourites, Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(10/7 to book their place in the final, both players won their singles ties. Martinez Sanchez defeated Stosur 6-4, 6-1. Robredo defeated Hewitt 6-2, 6-4

The final will be played on Saturday 9th January at 9.30am local time.
