The Tennis Leaders Award is a programme developed by the LTA to help encourage young people to play an active role in delivering the game. The programme's aim is to help develop the next generation of coaches, tournament organisers, club managers and tournament officials. It is designed for young people aged 14 and over and can be delivered in either a school or club environment.

The Tennis Leaders Award gives participants an opportunity to develop their skills and be recognised for their achievements and commitment. They are also encouraged to get further involved in tennis as a volunteer and in the future as a coach or official.

There are two parts to the programme. First, there are the Tennis Leader Awards. These are structured training courses delivered by coaches and teachers. There is a basic Tennis Leader Award plus a number of optional Advanced Awards in various specific areas of tennis.

Second, there are leader activities. These are signposts to opportunities to get involved with helping in Mini Tennis classes, competitions and tennis events.

Those who complete the programme receive a certificate of achievement for every award and recognition for time involved in leader activities.

After their training, Tennis Leaders are introduced to working or volunteering in tennis. As a result of their experience leaders may choose to continue in a specific role in coaching, tennis development, officiating or volunteering. They will be offered opportunities on both a local and national level.

We want to make sure we recognise leaders’ achievements, so they will be eligible for nomination for special awards both locally and nationally. We will also hold events for those who are making a special contribution to grassroots tennis.
